6 Christian Easter Books for Kids

In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, today's post will be all about books! Easter is on the horizon, so I wanted to share with you some children's Easter books that focus on the Christian Easter story. Sorry, no Easter bunny here! Below is my list of six beautiful book selections that you can read with your children to teach them about the real meaning of Easter.

From Amazon: "This delightful volume in the Little Blessings line helps young children understand basic truths about Jesus. Why Is There a Cross? tackles the difficult subject of Christ’s death. This read-to-me book for children ages 3–6 explains both the how and the why of Christ’s death in simple words and pictures that communicate the wonder of his sacrifice."

The Berenstain Bears have been teaching us lessons for almost sixty years. So, who better to teach us about the real meaning of Easter? Take your children on a trip to Sunday school with the Bear cubs where Brother and Sister learn that Easter is way more than just egg hunts and candy.

This book is recommended for early readers ages 4-8 and includes stickers for after-reading activities!

I talked about Resurrection Eggs in another post, and this book would be an excellent accompaniment to that activity. Benjamin's Box goes through the events of Holy Week told from the perspective of a boy who's actually there witnessing it. As he follows along on Jesus's journey, he fills his box with special treasures and learns all about the power of Jesus's love.

This beautifully illustrated book is recommended for children as 4-8.

My sister-in-law gave us another book in this series, and it was beautiful! This book focuses on the Easter story through the eyes of Peter the apostle. Children will see how, after His resurrection, Jesus sought Peter and forgave him for his denial. They'll see how Peter went on to share Jesus's forgiveness and love with the world. It is a wonderful reminder to children that no matter how many times we mess up or fail at something, Jesus will always be there to forgive us - just like he forgave Peter.

Another book from the God Gave Us series, God Gave Us Easter depicts Little Cub celebrating Easter with her family. She poses important questions about why this day is so special, and her Papa answers her in simple ways that all young children can understand.

Recommended for children ages 3 and up.

From Amazon: "A follow-up to the popular 'Twas the Evening of Christmas from beloved author Glenys Nellist. 'Twas the Morning of Easter tells the story of the resurrection of Jesus in a fresh way, with a familiar rhythm and rhyme that children will love, following the pattern of Clement Moore's iconic "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."

This book is recommended for children ages 4-8.

The Easter story can be challenging to explain to young children, but these books will make it easy and fun and will hopefully spark some meaningful conversations. What are some of your favorite Easter books to read with your children?
